This site provides access to documents that support the operations of the WAC Clearinghouse and its operation as a nonprofit organization.
The WAC Clearinghouse is an open-access publishing collaborative that is supported by the efforts of more than 200 scholars who serve in various editorial roles, including journal and book series editors, editorial staff, reviewers, and editorial board members. It is widely regarded as the leading website supporting the use of writing and speaking in courses across the curriculum. The Clearinghouse publishes articles and books of interest to both the writing-across-the-curriculum community and the larger writing studies community and provides a wide range of web-based resources for instructors who wish to use writing in their courses. In the past year, the Clearinghouse recorded more than 5.9 million visits to the site and saw more than 6.3 million documents (primarily books, book chapters, and articles) downloaded. Since we began keeping records of activity on our website in 2001, the Clearinghouse website has seen more than 39 million downloads of its books, book chapters, and articles.
The Clearinghouse was founded in 1997 to provide access to teaching resources and scholarly publications. As an open-access publisher, the Clearinghouse is dedicated to providing barrier- and cost-free access to scholarly work, including journals and journal articles, monographs, edited collections, conference proceedings, and professional and pedagogical resources. Since the late 1990s, the members of the Clearinghouse publishing collaborative have developed approaches to publishing that have significantly reduced the cost of publishing scholarly work while maintaining standards that put our journals and books among the top in the field of writing studies. Clearinghouse publications are used widely for scholarly and pedagogical purposes. Since 2023, six of our books won national book-of-the-year awards from leading professional organizations; over the past nine years, twelve books have received these types of awards. Similarly, more than a dozen articles in journals published by the Clearinghouse have been honored with awards.
